Retirees share a story with children from St Martins Academy

Pupils from St Martins Academy in Chester have visited Churchill Living’s Eaton Lodge to share a story with the Owners.

25 children from Year One performed The Three Little Pigs before listening to stories read by two of the Owners. The visit marks the start of a partnership between Eaton Lodge and the school, which will see Owners going into school to listen to the children read and also hosting visits from them at the Lodge.

Class Teacher, Lizzie O’Donoghue, said: “The children were delighted at the opportunity to visit everyone at Eaton Lodge and were so excited perform for the residents and staff. It was lovely to hear the Owners share stories with us too. It’s very important for us to make links in our community and this marks the start of a very special relationship.”

“The children’s journey to becoming fluent readers will benefit greatly from the opportunity to read to the Owners at Eaton Lodge. Equally, being read to by adults from different generations will be thoroughly enjoyed.”

“We’re looking forward to visiting regularly and welcoming everyone from Eton Lodge into our school.”

Christine Davies, who read to the children said: “It was so nice to see how well the children are being taught. They were very polite and they all looked so smart, they are a credit to St Martin’s Academy. How nice, that our different generations can interact and learn from each other.”

Corrina Thorley, Lodge Manager at Eaton Lodge, said: “We thoroughly enjoyed the visit from the children and their performance of The Three Little Pigs was brilliant. It’s great for the Owners to take on projects like this. Volunteering your time and attention to someone else is very fulfilling and I’m sure it will be mutually beneficial for the Owners and the children.”
