Local children learn about site safety at new retirement development

Children from Crossley Street Primary School visited Churchill Living’s Tatterton Lodge in Wetherby last week for a special building site safety visit.

30 pupils from the school’s reception class were invited to the development on York Road, which is still under construction, to learn all about safety on building sites and to meet the construction team.

Mrs Wade, reception teacher at Crossley Street Primary School, said: “We are extremely grateful to Churchill Living for arranging this visit for us – it was a great opportunity for the children to discover what the workers do on site each day and to ask the builders lots of questions. The class thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the Lodge and it might have even inspired some of them to consider a career in construction when they grow up!”

Andrew Wallace, contracts manager at Churchill Living, gave the children a tour of the site. He said: “It is so important for children to understand the dangers of playing on building sites so we were pleased that the school paid us a visit ahead of the summer holidays. It was wonderful to see how enthusiastic they were walking around the site and how excited they were to see all of the big machinery that we use. I have even received a wonderful card from the children thanking us for their trip with some lovely drawings of the site and our workers.”

Tatterton Lodge is located just to the edge of the town centre and will comprise 56 private, self-contained apartments that are specially designed for retired Owners, with features such as a video-entry system, lift to all floors, a 24 hour care and support system, and a Lodge Manager.

Communal facilities include an Owners’ Lounge, Guest Suite and landscaped gardens. Like all Churchill Living Developments, the location has been chosen for convenience and is within easy walking distance of the wide selection of shops and amenities of Wetherby town centre and has good public transport links.
