Churchill Foundation celebrity golf tournament raises £45,000

Churchill Living is proud to announce that its charitable arm the Churchill Foundation has raised a total of £45,000 at its first ever Celebrity Golf Tournament.

The event took place at the renowned Remedy Oak golf course in Dorset on Tuesday 20th June, with celebrity guests including Ronan Keating, Willie Thorne, Paul Jones and Luther Blissett, along with compere Adger Brown. 17 teams battled it out to be the first ever champions of the tournament, and later took part in a charity auction bidding for a range of ‘money can’t buy’ items and experiences.

The event was generously sponsored by Moore Blatch LLP solicitors, as well as Ringwood Brewery, Bride Valley Vineyard and the Beaulieu Estate.

The money raised will be split between two of the Churchill Foundation’s Charity Partners for 2017, Hope for Food and The Silver Line.  Hope for Food is a Bournemouth-based charity run completely by volunteers who run four soup kitchens a week and provide food, shelter, clothing and bedding for the homeless and those in need. The Silver Line was set up by Churchill Living Ambassador Dame Esther Rantzen as the only free confidential helpline providing information, friendship and advice to combat loneliness in older people, delivering a fantastic service 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Hope For Food also took the opportunity to unveil its new “Clean Machine”, a specially designed mobile laundry service that will provide clean clothes, food and respite for the homeless across Bournemouth and the surrounding area. Only the second of its kind in the world, and the first ever to operate in the UK, the Clean Machine is the brainchild of Hope For Food’s founder Claire Matthews, and has been funded by the Churchill Foundation.

Clinton McCarthy, Churchill Living’s Co-Founder and a Trustee of the Churchill Foundation, said:

“We’re very proud of what the Churchill Foundation has achieved since it was set up just 18 months ago, transforming many people’s lives by supporting our main charity partners as well as a wide range of smaller charities. Our first ever Celebrity Golf Tournament plays a big part in our fundraising plans for 2017, and I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who supported the event and helped to make it such a success. The money raised for Help For Food and The Silver Line will make a big difference to the important work both charities do.”
