Construction workers to show support for Macmillan in Tonbridge

Charitable construction workers at Churchill Living’s new St Giles Lodge development in Tonbridge will be raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support by hosting their own coffee morning on-site for the local community.

The event, which is part of the charity’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning campaign, will be taking place on Friday 29th September from 10am. Site managers Jay Bourne and Andy Baker have arranged a BBQ and will be serving burgers and bacon butties, tea, coffee and cake at the site entrance to the new development on Shipbourne Road, which is currently still under construction.

Churchill Living is currently building its new St Giles Lodge development in the town, which will comprise 31 purpose-built, privately-owned apartments exclusively for the over 60s.

Churchill Living has a special relationship with Macmillan Cancer Support and has raised more than £300,000 for the charity since 2009. It is one of a number of national charities chosen to receive funds as part of the Churchill Foundation, Churchill’s registered charitable trust.  This is the eighth year the retirement developer has taken part in World’s Biggest Coffee morning, which last year raised over £30,000.

Andy Baker, assistant site manager at Churchill Living, said: “We wanted to get involved in the local community and thought this would be an excellent opportunity to get to know people in the area, as well as raising money for a great cause. It’d be great to see as many locals as possible there on the day!

Anne Scherrer, marketing manager for Churchill Living said: “We are delighted to once again be involved in Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. The events are not only a fantastic way to raise money for a very worthy cause but also an opportunity to get the local community together. We have set an ambitious fundraising target of £35,000 for Macmillan this year and we hope people in Tonbridge will join the construction team to help us raise lots of money to support the great work the charity does.”

Once complete, St Giles Lodge will comprise 31 one and two bedroom privately-owned retirement apartments. Each apartment will be designed exclusively for those in their retirement years and will have a number of safety and security features, such as a 24 hour emergency call line and a video entry system, for complete peace of mind.

There will also be a Lodge Manager, who will oversee the running of the development, and an Owners’ Lounge, which can be used as a place to enjoy a catch up with neighbours, or for holding events. Like all Churchill Living developments, the location has been chosen for convenience. It is close to shops and local amenities and is well served by public transport.
