When Doreen & Dennis Winter moved into their brand new apartment at Churchill Living’s Avonbank Lodge in Newbury last winter, they found the warmest of welcomes even during the coldest of seasons.
It was not long before Christmas that we came and had a look here for the first time,” recalls Doreen. “There was one apartment that I really had my heart set on, and thankfully it was meant to be, we ended up making the move in time for Christmas.
The location was a key factor for Doreen and Dennis, along with the sense of community and support that comes with a Churchill apartment. “We lived in a two bedroom house just outside Newbury,” says Doreen. “But now we’re right near the main street in Newbury town centre and it’s the perfect spot. We’ve got M&S and Tesco within a couple of hundred yards’ walk, and everything we need is right nearby, all very convenient. It’s also very easy to get a bus to the hospital or wherever else we need to go.”
She adds:
We also don’t need to worry about stairs any more, as there’s a lift to take us up to our lovely big apartment on the third floor. We’ve got a south-facing balcony overlooking the church, where we can sit out and enjoy the sunshine when the weather gets warmer.
Doreen also enjoys the social aspect of life at Avonbank Lodge, adding: “It’s like a big family here, everybody’s friendly and we all have a good laugh. We can join in with the social activities like pizza night, fish and chips, film nights and other things as and when we want to. Our Lodge Manager Karon is wonderful, very thoughtful and there to turn to if we ever need anything. And best of all we know that everything is taken care of, so we don’t need to worry about maintenance.”
So would the Winters recommend a move to Churchill, at any time of year? “Oh yes,” says Doreen. “We’re enjoying our new life here.”
