Betty and Jack are both enjoying life in their new apartments at Churchill Living’s Sachs Lodge development in Torquay, and they also enjoy spending time at their local golf club. To recognise this connection, Churchill arranged a special branded golf buggy for all members of the club to use, and it was only fitting that Betty and Jack should be among the first to take it for a spin!
Although she no longer plays, Betty has been a frequent visitor to Torquay Golf Club for over 20 years, and most of her family are current members. “It’s a very sociable and convivial place,” she says. “I have plenty of friends there who might be interested in a retirement apartment, so the Churchill golf buggy is a good idea to spread the word about Sachs Lodge.”
Reflecting on her move to Sachs Lodge, Betty adds: “We have a good community here, largely thanks to our brilliant Lodge Manager Jo. Everybody collaborates and nobody is ever alone unless they want to be. There’s a nice mixture of people here, some are local and some are further afield, so I’m enjoying making new friends. I’ve also seen a visible improvement in some of my new neighbours since they’ve moved here, as they no longer have any worries about looking after a larger home.”
Jack and his wife Rosemary are new to Torquay having relocated from Nottingham a year and a half ago, and he agrees with Betty about the sense of community both at the Lodge and the local golf club. “Moving here is the best thing we ever did,” he says. “It was a very spontaneous decision, we saw a Churchill advert in the paper one day and really liked the idea of retiring by the sea, so we just went for it! Our children and grandchildren have all come down to visit us here and they absolutely loved it.”
Jack adds: “Now I have no more worries about maintenance, fences blowing down, etc, as it’s all taken care of by Churchill. That gives me more time to golf, and since Torquay Golf Club is only a mile and a half away it means I can get some fresh air and exercise with a nice sociable round as often as I feel like it, especially when the weather improves.”
Sachs Lodge is a collection of 33 one and two bedroom privately owned retirement apartments and shared facilities, designed exclusively for the over 60s. The development enjoys views across the dramatic Lyme Bay and is also within a short walk of Ilsham Green, leading straight down to the sea and part of the South West Coastal Path. Wellswood Village is a short walk away where there is a parade of shops. These include a first class French Baker, beauty salons, travel agents, post office and a supermarket. If you don’t feel like walking, there is a bus stop right outside Sachs Lodge.
