Churchill Foundation celebrates raising over £30,000 for Macmillan in 2020

Our apartment Owners and Colleagues are celebrating having raised over £30,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support in 2020. This takes the total raised by Churchill and its management company Millstream Management Services to well over £500,000 in the last 11 years of support for the cancer charity.

The fundraising activities in 2020 were very different from normal due to Covid-19 restrictions, so instead of the usual World’s Biggest Coffee Morning events many Owners had to get creative with Macmillan-themed raffles, baking competitions, and a range of other socially distanced activities. For five weeks in September and October the Company also donated £5 for every new Customer who made an appointment to visit its Sales Offices at new developments across the country.

Concorde Lodge in Bristol raised the most for an individual development, with an impressive total of over £2,000. Its Owners held a big raffle, and coffee and homemade cakes were delivered to their doorsteps so they could be a part of the fundraising from the comfort and safety of their apartments. Lodge Manager John Sheridan and his wife Jane even did a sponsored Olympic bobsleigh run in Latvia which significantly boosted the total – a very brave effort!

John said: “We always make a big effort to support Macmillan, and Jane and I were lucky enough to complete our Olympic bobsleigh trip just before the first lockdown. It was a fantastic experience, and thanks to everyone’s generous sponsorship it really helped our fundraising too.”

Spencer McCarthy, Chairman & CEO of Churchill Living, said:

“It was great to be involved once again in Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning campaign. The campaign took on a very different look in 2020, but for many of our Lodges it still provided an opportunity for the community to come together safely, while raising money for a very worthy cause. I’d like to thank everyone involved for helping us to raise such an impressive total yet again in 2020.

Lisa Sainsbury, Fundraising Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, said:

“Sadly, the number of people being diagnosed with cancer is increasing every year and that means Macmillan’s support for people living with cancer is in more demand than ever. At Macmillan, we know how cancer can affect everything. We’re here to help everyone with cancer live life as fully as they can, but we can’t do it without the amazing people who fundraise for us, such as everyone at Churchill Living and Millstream Management Services. The money they have raised will help Macmillan do whatever it takes to make sure our vital support continues to be available.”
