Walking is more than just a form of exercise; it’s a powerful way to connect with and understand your local area. It not only contributes to physical and mental well being by reducing stress and boosting how you feel, but it also encourages people to explore their surroundings in a way that driving or other forms of transport cannot.
Following the pandemic, the UK saw a surge in adults walking simply for leisure at least once per week, peaking at 60% in 2021. However fast forward to last year, it was reported that numbers have slightly dropped, decreasing to 56%.
With that said, Churchill Living has decided to create a walking guide for Calne, encouraging both locals and visitors to start walking again and step outside to explore this beautiful part of Wiltshire through scenic routes and historical sites. Along the way, people can expect to encounter open green spaces, heritage sites, and peaceful spots perfect for a stroll.
A PDF version is available to download here. Alternatively, for a paper version of this walking guide please pop into the Welcome Centre at Orchard Lodge and enjoy a free cup of tea, coffee or cold drink before or after your walk.
