Churchill Living apartment Owner John Nicholson has enjoyed having more time to pursue his passion for photography since his move to Riverain Lodge. Having developed his skills and built up a strong collection of images over the last year, he recently displayed his photographs at a public exhibition in the nearby village of South Petherton. He was also proud to put them on display for a short time in the Owners’ Lounge at Riverain Lodge, where they could be enjoyed by his fellow apartment Owners and visitors.
On his inspiration for the exhibition, John says: “Back in January, I set myself a target of taking a photo every day for a year, so I’ve taken over 270 so far. I have photographed people, dogs, flowers, manhole covers, statues, church interiors, views and many odd things that just happened to catch my eye. Living at Riverain Lodge, with none of the demands that living in a house entails, has freed up much more time to lock up and go abroad or out locally finding subjects and engaging with potential models.”
Expanding on his photography journey, John adds: “I was given my first camera over 60 years ago. For many years it was used primarily when on holiday. Retirement has freed up a lot more time to study and practice photography. I joined a local camera club which holds an annual exhibition each September and I have always enjoyed taking part. Following a discussion with our Lodge Manager, Helena Wellington, I agreed that I would show the images I had exhibited this year. They were taken both with my camera and iPhone.”
With all the positive feedback he has received, John is keen to keep sharing his work with others and even encourage them to try it too. He says: “For the future I would like to encourage fellow apartment Owners to join me and show their favourite photos for us all to enjoy.”
