Churchill and Millstream Win National Award for Sale Development

A Churchill Living development in Sale which is managed by Millstream Management Services has been awarded a National Housing for Older People Award by the national housing charity for older people, Elderly Accommodation Counsel (EAC).

Brindley Lodge achieved the Bronze award in the ‘retirement housing 40-49 units’ category, which was awarded for both the quality of the property, as well as the services provided by Millstream Management Services.

More than 4,000 residents from 360 specialist housing schemes helped choose the award winners in a unique process overseen by the EAC, which culminated in an awards presentation at The Hilton Hotel in Manchester this month.

The residents scored their retirement scheme on a variety of statements relating to both the quality of the property, including location, build quality, space and design and the care and support their receive, including staff attitudes, social activities and integration into the wider community.

Also successful in gaining “highly commended” certificates were Churchill’s retirement developments, Ballard Lodge in Shepperton and Wellington Lodge in Camberley, both managed by Millstream Management Services.

Spencer McCarthy, Chairman and Group Managing Director at Churchill Living, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have been recognised in this way by the Elderly Accommodation Counsel for a number of our developments across the UK. Good quality, specialist retirement properties are a crucial part of both promoting the health and wellbeing of the elderly, thus helping to alleviate the pressure on the NHS, as well as helping to unblock the UK’s housing crisis. However, as the latest report to come out of the select committee on National Policy for the Built Environment highlighted again just last week, we need many more of them, which is where the Government has an important role to play.”

Simon Crewe, Managing Director of Millstream Management Services said: “The combination of quality development and compassionate care is essential for the wellbeing of our elderly. We’re incredibly proud to have been recognised for getting this right, in partnership with Churchill. Celebrating with not only our own employees but a number of retired owners from Brindley Lodge at the awards ceremony itself was living proof of the real life relationships being created at our schemes.”

EAC Chief Executive, John Galvin, underlined the importance of the Awards. “They continue to convey a strong, positive message about the success of retirement housing and housing-with-care, and also to celebrate the fact that provision is becoming more diverse”.

Legal & General, who have sponsored the event since their beginning in 2010, welcomed another year’s awards ceremony. “We are glad this year to welcome another large contingent of the residents of housing for later life. They are at the centre of the EAC Awards, helping us to understand what makes for good retirement housing.”
