Churchill Foundation donates £2,000 to local charity Helping Homeless Veterans

The Churchill Foundation has donated £2,000 to Poole-based charity Helping Homeless Veterans UK

Helping Homeless Veterans UK provides housing advice and direct help to prevent homelessness among armed forces veterans, as well as taking homeless veterans off the streets and into their own properties. CEO David Wood runs the charity with no overheads so that 100% of all donations are spent helping homeless veterans.

The charity was voted for by Colleagues from Churchill’s management arm Millstream Management Services, after Lodge Manager Simon Thompson nominated it through the Company’s “Charity Choices” initiative, which enables Colleagues from across the Group to put forward charities of their choosing to receive a £2,000 donation. Simon manages Charlotte Lodge retirement development in Eastleigh, where he presented a special cheque to the charity’s CEO David Wood last week.

David said:

I would like to personally thank the Churchill Foundation for the grant of £2,000 that we received in December 2019. This grant could not have come at a better time for our organisation as we always receive an influx of homeless veterans in the run up to Christmas. In the month of December we managed to help and assist seven veterans into their own accommodation as well as providing them all with furniture and welfare packages consisting of a food shop and gas and electricity top ups. This could not have been achieved without the generous funding we receive, so thank you to Simon and everyone at Churchill and Millstream Management Services.

Lodge Manager Simon Thompson added: “I’m delighted to have had the opportunity to nominate Helping Homeless Veterans UK through our Colleague Charity Choices initiative, and award them with this £2,000 donation thanks to the Churchill Foundation. As an armed forces veteran myself it’s a cause very close to my heart, and my wife and I have both volunteered for the charity for a number of years. Next month I’ll also be taking part in a sponsored 24 hour walking relay between Bournemouth and Boscombe piers, so any further donations to our fundraising page – https://www.gofundme.com/f/ukx8xf-helping-homeless-veterans-uk – would be very welcome to help support this fantastic cause!”
