This month we welcomed Totnes locals to an engaging historical event at Elmhirst Lodge. The event featured esteemed author and speaker Rosemary Griggs, who took guests on a fascinating journey through the history of Dartington Hall, a landmark just three miles from Elmhirst Lodge.
Dressed in period costume, Rosemary Griggs brought the past to life with her expert storytelling and explored the rich heritage of Dartington Hall and its transformation under the stewardship of Dorothy and Leonard Elmhirst. In 1925, the Elmhirsts purchased the then nearly derelict 14th-century Dartington estate and embarked on an ambitious mission to restore it. Their work, inspired by the progressive ideas of the era and backed by Dorothy's inherited wealth, turned Dartington into a hub for innovation, education, and the arts.
Elmhirst Lodge itself stands as a tribute to their legacy which made it the perfect setting for this immersive talk. After the event, visitors mingled with Owners and heard about what a Churchill Living lifestyle has to offer, whilst enjoying some light refreshments.
Elmhirst Lodge is made up of 42 one- and two-bedroom apartments, each of which are fully self-contained with their own front doors allowing for peace and privacy when desired. Owners have the benefit of an exclusive Owner’s Lounge, complete with coffee bar where views of landscaped gardens can be enjoyed. Elmhirst Lodge also has a Lodge Manager who is on hand to deal with any queries, along with a Guest Suite for visiting friends and family.
Caroline Haswell, Senior Marketing Manager for our South West division comments: “It was lovely to welcome Rosemary Griggs to Elmhirst Lodge for this engaging event.
