Residents at retirement living developments across the country have been taking part in a competition to mark National Colouring Book Day, and the three lucky winners have now been revealed by competition organisers Churchill Living and Millstream Management Services.
Michael Duffin from Priory Court in Solihull was the proud winner, receiving a £50 Edinburgh Woollen Mill gift voucher for his entry, which used a mixture of pencil colours in blue, pink, red and yellow shades on a ‘Celestial Mandalas’ template design.
Runner-up Jo Gardner, from Gerard Lodge in Bognor Regis, came a close second with her bold colouring of a design which featured strikingly colourful tropical birds and flowers against a rainforest background.
Third place went to 87-year-old Verna Dawson of Meyer Court in Exeter, whose entry used the same Celestial Mandalas template as the winner, with a subtle blend of blues, oranges and yellows that really caught the judges’ eyes.
The competition was organised by Churchill alongside Millstream Management Services, which manages all Churchill Living developments as well as many independent leasehold retirement properties, and looks to provide regular events and activities for owners to enjoy an active and enjoyable retirement. Participants were provided with six designs and a range of colouring pencils and pens to create their entries. The response was impressive, with 59 entries from Churchill and Millstream developments all over the country.
Phillip Geise, Lifestyle and Events Manager for Churchill Living, said: “Adult colouring is becoming a really popular hobby amongst people of all ages. It’s a great way to relax, helps concentration, and also brings out your artistic side, so we thought a competition would be a fun way to encourage all our Owners to give it a try.
“We were delighted with the number who got involved, and the quality of entries was outstanding which made judging the winners really tough. Michael, Verna and Jo’s entries all stood out for different reasons, so congratulations to them and to everyone else who took part.”
