People in Portswood had the chance to meet one of the area’s favourite footballing personalities, Lawrie McMenemy MBE, when he attended an Open Day at Churchill Living’s Spitfire Lodge on Belmont Road. The event was an opportunity to meet Lawrie, and to view the development’s beautiful Show Complex, as well as being treated to some light refreshments and a glass of fizz in the Owners’ Lounge.
Awarded an MBE in 2006 and also the Freedom of Southampton in 2007, Lawrie is best known for his spell as manager of Southampton Football Club and as a BBC TV pundit covering five World Cups. In 1976, he guided Southampton, then in the Second Division, to an FA Cup Final victory over Manchester United.
Lawrie said:
“I very much enjoyed meeting the Churchill Owners at Spitfire Lodge, and it was great to see the thriving community that is taking shape here.”
Churchill’s Regional Sales & Marketing Director Zoe Bonnington added: ““It was a real pleasure to welcome a star like Lawrie to Spitfire Lodge. Events like this are a part of the fun and sociable lifestyle that comes with a brand new Churchill apartment, and all our Owners and visitors enjoyed hearing his tales from a remarkable sporting career.”
