Talented amateur artist Alan sets up charity exhibition at his Torquay retirement development

As lockdown restrictions finally lift, Churchill Living is inviting local people to its Sachs Lodge development in Torquay for a special charity art exhibition to raise money for the RNLI. Apartment Owner and keen amateur artist Alan Lark has produced around 40 stunning watercolours which he is kindly offering to interested buyers in return for a donation.

The event will take place at 11am on Wednesday 23rd June, with refreshments served in the development’s spacious Owners’ Lounge. Everyone is welcome and there is sure to be a warm and sociable atmosphere after many months of restrictions to the Lodge’s usual busy schedule of social activities.

Explaining his inspiration, Alan said: “I failed A Level art but took it up again in my late fifties in a bid to prove my old art teacher wrong! I’m completely self-taught and only paint for pleasure, and during the last year I’ve been putting some of my creations on display in the Owners’ Lounge to cheer people up and connect with them while we haven’t been able to socialise as much. Churchill kindly offered to help mount around 40 of them for a proper exhibition once all the lockdown restrictions are lifted, so I thought why not go for it as a way to raise money for the local RNLI. Everyone here is looking forward to it!”

As well as the art exhibition there will also be an informative talk from local historian Colin Vosper, a retired lecturer from South Devon College and expert on a range of local history topics.

Jo Ridehalgh, Churchill’s Regional Marketing Executive, said: “We’re delighted that Alan has agreed to exhibit his amazing paintings, and we’re really looking forward to welcoming people to see them and help raise money for the RNLI. It’s also the perfect opportunity for everyone to come and meet our apartment Owners and see all that Sachs Lodge has to offer. Interesting and sociable events like this are what the retirement living lifestyle is all about!”
