Churchill has given a warm welcome to its first new apartment Owners at Fitzford Lodge in Tavistock, where a thriving community is starting to take shape despite the challenges of Covid-19. Owners are enjoying an independent lifestyle since moving into their brand new one and two bedroom apartments, and Lodge Manager Shirley has put all the necessary measures in place to keep everyone safe.
Apartment Owner Brenda Cooper was one of the first to move to Fitzford Lodge despite the national lockdown last year. She says: “I previously lived in my bungalow for over 50 years. I was beginning to find the garden maintenance far too much. It was an extremely difficult decision to make but it has been the right one for me. Yes there were doubts but now I’m very happy in my new home. Everyone is very friendly and there is always someone to chat to, but if you want to be on your own if you so wish that is fine. To anyone considering a move I would say take the plunge! It is well worth it and I have no regrets.”
Brenda’s positive experience also encouraged her sister-in-law Teresa to take the plunge and buy a new apartment herself. Teresa says: “Frankly my new lifestyle is absolutely perfect. I am free to enjoy retirement with lovely neighbours and can take walks which can be completely flat or more challenging dependent on weather. We even have informally started a little walking group. The bus stop is right outside so we can use the bus to go further and walk back. What I like best about living here is that I can enjoy being retired without worrying about the maintenance of the property, which is all taken care of.”
Another happy new member of the Fitzford Lodge community is Carole Pengelly, who says: “I’d advise anyone who feels somewhat daunted by the prospect of moving home in later life to consider Churchill. The various support services on offer really do lift the burden. As a single person, I felt in safe hands throughout the whole process, confident that all those involved are reputable and experienced in the field of senior moves. In addition there are many ways in which support continues after moving in.”
Developments like Fitzford Lodge have proven to be very safe places to live throughout the pandemic thanks to the excellent safety measures, the hard work of Lodge Managers like Shirley, and the secure, self-contained nature of this type of accommodation. This has meant the rate of Covid-19 infections among Churchill Owners has remained less than a third of that seen across the wider UK population, and safety and wellbeing continues to be a top priority.
Fitzford Lodge is located near the heart of Tavistock close to shops and amenities and perfectly located for local transport links. The Lodge comprises 48 private, self-contained apartments with spacious rooms throughout, considerately designed with the over 60s in mind, and a warm, comfortable Owners’ Lounge where regular social events will start up again as soon as Covid restrictions allow.
