Les and Anne enjoy an active retirement at Brindley Lodge

When retired couple Les and Anne Roberts moved to their new apartment at Churchill Living’s Brindley Lodge in Sale, it felt like “coming out of hibernation” and they’re now enjoying an active social life with both old friends and new.

Les explains: “We relocated here from Upton-upon-Severn, near Worcester, after making the decision to move from a larger and much older house, and look to the future in a new home while we’re still young and healthy enough to enjoy it. I was at Manchester University and spent 30 years working here, so we still have many friends in the area and know the city well.

“Brindley Lodge immediately struck us as modern, clean and new, and the helpful sales staff and Lodge Manager were all so warm and welcoming that we soon knew this was the place for us. The fact that we could bring our cat with us too was another attraction, as we’d have hated to have to leave him behind.

“Another big feature of the Lodge was the fact that it’s right next-door to Sale Metro station, which opens up the whole city of Manchester and beyond for us to enjoy. We can head to Bury market, visit the cinema, go to restaurants and enjoy days out shopping. I even travel down to Birmingham occasionally for lectures on Greek literature and history which I’m continuing to study. Getting around is always easy, and we’ve got rid of the car as we didn’t feel we needed it any more.”

Anne is also enjoying her new life in Sale, adding: “I’ve helped out a bit with the social committee here at the Lodge, and enjoy dipping in and out of the knitting group and other regular activities with our new friends and neighbours. But I also love getting out and about, heading to Altrincham on the tram, or into Manchester for a more lively night out. I’m originally from Liverpool and although I enjoyed living down in Worcestershire for a while, I feel like I’m back where I belong now and am loving every minute of it.”
