A group of ladies from Churchill Living’s King’s Lodge in Maidstone have been busy knitting remembrance poppies for a local appeal.
The ladies have knitted special poppies to contribute towards the Kent Knitted Poppy Parade appeal, which has challenged locals to help build a carpet of knitted or crocheted poppies to commemorate Remembrance Day. Over 7,000 poppies were donated to last year’s appeal, with even more expected this year.
Several Owners at King’s Lodge had already formed a weekly Knit and Knatter group where they meet in the Owners’ Lounge to chat and knit woolly supplies, when they decided to take on the challenge to create poppies for the display.
Sue Robertson, Lodge Manager at King’s Lodge, said: “The ladies thoroughly enjoy getting together for their weekly Knit and Knatter group, and have found it so rewarding to be able to knit for such a lovely cause. In fact, they’ve enjoyed it so much that we’re now selling extra knitted poppies in the Lodge reception, with all the proceeds going to Walking with the Wounded.
“They have put so much time and effort into this project, and we’re proud that the Owners at King’s Lodge have been able to contribute towards this very special reminder of the great sacrifices made by those who lost their lives during the war.”
