A resident from East Wittering is celebrating after being announced as the lucky winner of a competition to name Churchill Living’s new development on Stocks Lane.
Jackie Hudson, who has lived in East Wittering for three years, was presented with a cheque for £100 at a naming ceremony for the new Tamarisk Lodge development in the town.
Mrs Hudson said: “We first started visiting East Wittering during the summer holidays about 30 years ago, and noticed these beautiful shrubs with pink flowers everywhere. After asking the locals, we discovered that it is called tamarisk. It’s commonly grown in coastal gardens as it makes an effective windbreak because it tolerates blasts of high winds.
“I saw the competition advertised and thought that Tamarisk was a great name with a nice connection to the area - I’m thrilled to have won. We moved to East Wittering from Croydon in 2013 after spending many family holidays here, it’s been a wonderful escape to the seaside for us and we love it here!”
Deborah Waldeck, Regional Marketing Executive for Churchill Living, said: “Churchill Living likes to involve the local community in choosing the names for its developments and often does so by running a competition asking for suggestions. We received a vast number of entries for the new East Wittering development and we are pleased to have awarded Mrs Hudson with her winning cheque.”
Tamarisk Lodge, which is currently under construction, is located half a mile from East Wittering village centre and its seafront, and will comprise 26 private, self-contained apartments that are specially designed for retired Owners, with features such as a video-entry system, lift to all floors, a 24 hour care and support system, and a Lodge Manager.
Communal facilities include an Owners’ Lounge, Guest Suite and landscaped gardens. Like all Churchill Living Developments, the location has been chosen for convenience and is within easy walking distance of the selection of shops and amenities in East Wittering village centre and has good public transport links.
Tamarisk Lodge is due to launch in January 2017. For more information or to register your interest, please call 0800 458 1856.
