A resident from Newbury is celebrating after being announced as the lucky winner of a competition to name Churchill Living’s new development on West Street.
60-year old Carol Swanborough, who has lived in the area for 30 years, was presented with a cheque for £100 at a naming ceremony for the newly named Avonbank Lodge in the town.
Mrs Swanborough said: “I can see the new Churchill development from my back garden so have taken an interest in the development from the start and watched the old building being demolished. I saw the competition advertised in the newspaper and thought it was a lovely opportunity to name a new building. I suggested the name Avonbank Lodge because the office building that used to stand on the same plot was called Avonbank House. I worked there for ten years and thought that Avonbank was a great name with a nice connection to the area – I’m thrilled to have won.”
Deborah Waldeck, regional marketing executive for Churchill Living, said: “Churchill Living likes to involve the local community in choosing the names for its developments and often does so by running a competition asking for suggestions. We received a vast number of entries suggesting names for the Newbury development and we are pleased to have awarded Mrs Swanborough with her winning cheque.”
Avonbank Lodge, which is currently under construction, is located on the edge of Newbury town centre and will comprise 59 private, self-contained apartments that are specially designed for retired Owners, with features such as a video-entry system, lift to all floors, a 24 hour care and support system, and a Lodge Manager.
Communal facilities include an Owners’ Lounge, Guest Suite and landscaped gardens. Like all Churchill Living Developments, the location has been chosen for convenience and is within easy walking distance of the selection of shops and amenities in Newbury town centre and has good public transport links.
Avonbank Lodge is due to launch in January 2017. For more information or to register your interest, please call 0800 458 1856.
