Local MP Alan Whitehead has visited Churchill Living’s new development in Portswood to install a special date plaque.
Mr Whitehead visited the development on Belmont Road to meet with Andrew Burgess, Churchill’s Land and Planning Director, before enjoying an exclusive tour of the construction site.
Following the visit, Alan Whitehead MP, said: “I was impressed by the sustainability credentials of the development, in particular the use of ground source heat pump technology to provide heating and hot water for Owners. This is not only good for the environment, but also enables Owners to plan and budget more effectively, since their heating and hot water needs are taken care of.
Retirement properties are a crucial part of helping to unblock the UK’s housing crisis and Churchill’s new development is a significant addition to the housing provision in Portswood. Specialist retirement housing is proven to have a very real, beneficial effect on older people’s health and wellbeing, be it from being in a modern, warm, well insulated home to having a sense of community and no more loneliness. This can also help save health and care services considerable resources and contribute to easing the longer term pressure on the NHS.
Andrew Burgess added: “We were delighted that Mr Whitehead was able to join us to mark this occasion. Churchill’s developments offer security, peace of mind and independent living for our Owners, along with community and support. Being in a manageable home with no maintenance can offer a new lease of life for people – ensuring they are close to amenities, and surrounded by a new community. We are delighted to be bringing our new development to Portswood and have already seen lots of interest from local over 60s keen to find out more about the benefits of retirement living.”
Once complete, the new development will comprise 73 private, self-contained apartments that are specially designed for the over 60s with features such as a video-entry system, lift to all floors, a 24 hour care and support system and a Lodge Manager. Communal facilities include an Owners’ Lounge with Coffee Bar, Guest Suite, Wellbeing Suite and landscaped gardens.
