Things to do in Surrey
There’s so much to enjoy in and around the county, but if you’re not familiar with the local area, here are just a few of the activities you can enjoy.
See the Surrey Hills
The Surrey Hills are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, covering over a quarter of the entire county. From the chalk North Downs to Oxted in the east, the Surrey Hills are an excellent space for hikes and walks, with lots of interesting sights to see, including famous beauty spots like Box Hill and the Devil’s Punch Bowl.
Discover Guildford
Visit the town of Guildford in your retirement to find a vibrant market town with a wide selection of things to do and places to eat, as well as excellent shopping spots and historical places of interest. Explore the local history with the Guildford Museum and walk through the Guildford Castle grounds.
Epsom’s Racing
In the northern reaches of Surrey you can find the town of Epsom, best known for the famous Epsom Downs Racecourse that overlooks the North Downs. The town of Epsom, however, makes for a great day out on its own; with the sprawling Epsom Common and the Epsom Playhouse Theatre providing plenty to do.
Explore Painshill Park
Painshill is a beautiful, 18th century landscape garden in northern Surrey listed on the register of Historic Parks and Gardens. Described as a “living canvas”, a visit to Painshill in your retirement will reward you with over 150 acres of woodlands, rivers, lakes, gardens and artistic buildings to explore and enjoy.
